Purging all Meats - Mark 7:19: A Hebrew Catholic Insight


582 Iesus, ulterius procedens, de puritate alimentorum perfecit Legem, tanti momenti in vita quotidiana Iudaeorum, eius sensum aperiens « paedagogicum » 372 per interpretationem divinam: « Omne extrinsecus introiens in hominem non potest eum coinquinare, [...] — purgans omnes escas. Dicebat autem: Quod de homine exit, illud coinquinat hominem; ab intus enim de corde hominum, cogitationes malae procedunt » (Mc 7,18-21). Iesus, interpretationem Legis definitivam tradens cum auctoritate divina, inventus est in oppositione ad quosdam Legis doctores qui Eius interpretationem non accipiebant, licet signis divinis confirmatam quae illam comitabantur. 373 Hoc peculiariter valet de sabbati quaestione: Iesus saepe cum argumentis rabbinicis 374 commemorat requiem sabbati non perturbari Dei 375 vel proximi servitio 376 quod Eius praestant sanationes.

Here is the official Latin version of CCC 582. One notices it uses the Latin Vulgate which has "purgans omnes escas" for the Greek "katarizo pas ho broma" both meaning "purging all the meats". This refers to the stomach or body purging or purifying all foods from the body and it is part of what Jesus is saying. The King James Version and the Catholic Douai-Rheims agree with this translation. It is only some modern translations that falsely separate this from what Jesus is saying and make it artificially an edit by Mark "and thus he declared all foods clean". They add "And thus he declared" a phrase which does not appear in the original text. Unfortunately the CCC in English doesn't use the Douai Rheims to translate the Latin Vulgate but a modern Bible. This gives the passage an interpretation that is contrary to the original text. In fact the English translation of the Peshitta Aramaic text reads: "...17And when Yeshua entered into the house, away from the multitudes, his talmidim began asking him about this saying. 18He said to them, "You too are slow to understanding. Do you not know that every thing which enters from the outside into a man is not able to to defile him. 19Because it does not enter into his heart, rather into his stomach and is removed by way of excretion, which purifies all the food. 20But anything that goes out from a man is what defiles a man. 21For it is from the inside of the heart of the sons of men that evil thoughts proceed such as adultery, fornication, theft, murder, extortion, 22wickedness, deceit, lust, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride and foolishness. 23All of these things are evil, and from within do they proceed and defile a man."..."

Jesus indeed brings the purity food laws into a new dimension of meaning that sees them as a symbol or analogy for the deeper meaning of the Torah about purity and intention of heart. He corrects those who think that the food itself brings defilment of a man. Food on a physical level goes into the stomach and is then purged out of the body by the biological processes whether one has washed his hands or not. It is the heart intention that is the true meaning and the purity and food laws of Judaism are meant to be kept with that in mind.

Misunderstanding the argument with Peter and Paul: A Hebrew Catholic Perspective


In Galatians 2 Paul relates an incident where he rebukes Peter and Barnabas for eating with Gentile Christians and then when the more strict Jewish Christians (who followed the Shammai tradition) visited they ceased eating with the Gentiles. Most Christians interpret this passage in regard to kosher food laws and assume that Peter and Paul no-longer observed kashrut. This however is not the case. Peter and Paul observed kashrut as did all the Jewish Christians who were zealous for the Torah and the Jewish customs (see Acts 21). If this was not about kosher food laws what was it about? One needs to understand the context of their situation. At this time the Pharisees were divided into two main groups the House of Hillel and the House of Shammai. After the death of Hillel, Shammai and his followers seized control of the religious Sanhedrin and imposed 18 articles of rigid separation of Jews with Gentiles. These 18 articles were opposed by the Hillelites and their followers consider the day they were imposed as a day of mourning. These rules meant that Jews not only couldn't sit at the same table with Gentiles but they couldn't even enter their homes.

The Holy Spirit taught Peter that these eighteen articles (gezerot) were not binding by showing him through a vision of animals that he should call no man unclean whom God has cleansed and taking Peter into a Gentile house. His vision of the animals did not mean it was ok to eat non-kosher food but it used animals to give Peter the message that the 18 articles of the House of Shammai were of no-effect for the Jewish Catholics. This artificial barrier or wall between Jews and Gentiles was abolished by the Cross. These 18 articles were later abolished by the Rabbis after the destruction of the Temple when the Hillelites gained full control of the Sanhedrin once again and it is taught in the Talmud that a voice spoke from heaven and decreed that these laws were abolished and that wherever the teachings of the House of Hillel differed from those of the House of Shammai the teachings of the Hillelites was the Halakah.

The Pharisees who Jesus identified as the 'leaven'[Chametz] were the Shammaites or Shomerim (the observant ones). The Talmud speaks of seven different types of Pharisees. Five of these groups are described in a negative way and they are known as 'Chametz' by Jesus as there were five kinds of "chametz" to be avoided on Passover. One of these groups are called the Shikmi who follow the actions of their founder known as Shechem or the Shechemite Pharisee. The city of Shechem was the Samaritan religious centre and after John Hycanus destroyed their Temple many of the Samaritans entered Judaism. They are the group Jesus speaks about when he says that they lay heavy burdens on men's shoulders. The use of the word 'shoulders' is an allusion to this group as the word for shoulder in Hebrew is similiar to Shechem. The Samaritans were also known as Shomerim and Shechemites. Another group were called the Nikpi who knocked their legs together and walk with small steps thus showing how 'humble' they were- this group were masters of 'fake humility'. They would also put off doing good deeds by elaborate cautiousness. A third group were the Kizai who would walk around with their eyes closed and smash into walls and draw blood in their efforts to avoid looking at women. A fourth group were the Medukhia or Hankaia Pharisees who are described like a pestle in a mortar. Like a pestle they oppressed, ground and smash down people by their exaggerated observances. Always looking for the faults in others rather than looking skyward to the heavens. A fifth group were those self righteous pharisees who would think they were so good at observing all the Torah that they pompuously would inquire about doing more. Two groups were associated with the matzah of Passover- they were the Essene followers of Menachem (the reverent mystics) and the followers of Hillel (the humble peaceloving Pharisees).


Paul had been brought up in the Hillelite tradition but later joined the Shammaites and took on their fanatical ideas about observance and salvation. After his conversion he returned to the teachings of the school of Hillel on relations with the Gentiles and salvation. Even though his teacher Gamaliel (the grandson of Hillel) was Nasi (Davidic President) of the religious Sanhedrin he was outnumbered by the Shammaites. It is these teachings of Shammai that Jesus opposes as contrary to the Law of Moses and in this the Hillelites stood on the side of Jesus. They made their own man-made traditions equal with the Traditions of the Sages. The Shammaites taught that it was not possible for Gentiles to enter the World to Come and that it was the strict observance of Torah that gave salvation and thus all Gentiles were doomed. The School of Hillel taught otherwise and saw salvation not in observance of the Torah but in the coming of the Messiah and that Gentiles who lived according to the laws of Noah could attain to the World to Come. These Gentiles were known as the God-fearers (Ger Toshav).

According to the Shammaites those like the Hillelites who had social communications with Gentiles were living 'like Gentiles' not like observant Jews and the Shammaites persecuted and even killed some of the Hillelites. Paul rebukes Peter and Barnabas for relapsing into these rigid Shammaite observances of separation when they already in the eyes of the House of Shammai were living 'like or as Gentiles'. Paul was horrified to think that Peter might by his example encourage Gentiles to feel that they must become Jews in order to be equal citizens in the Church. By Peter and Barnabas' actions they were re-erecting the wall of separation between Jewish and Gentile believers. Salvation is gained through the grace of the Messiah not through observances. Observances, whether the particular Jewish observances or the observances appropriate for Gentiles, aid in ones sanctification but salvation comes from the Redeemer and Saviour with an act of Divine Grace.

WHOEVER KNOWS ANYTHING IN HIS FAVOUR, LET HIM COME AND STATE IT.

GEMARA. Abaye said; It must also be announced: On such and such a day, at such and such and hour, and in such and such a place [the crime was committed], in case there are some who know [to the contrary], so that they can come forward and prove the witnesses Zomemim.

AND A HERALD PRECEDES HIM etc. This implies, only immediately before [the execution], but not previous thereto. [In contradiction to this] it was taught: [On the eve of the Passover Yeshu was hanged.] For forty days before the execution took place, a herald went forth and cried, 'He is going forth to be stoned because he has practised sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy. Any one who can say anything in his favour, let him come forward and plead on his behalf.' But since nothing was brought forward in his favour he was [hanged on the eve of the Passover!] — Ulla retorted: 'Do you suppose that he was one for whom a defence could be made? Was he not a Mesith [enticer], concerning whom Scripture says, Neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him? With Yeshu however it was different, for he was connected with the government [or royalty, i.e., influential].' [Note the parts about Yeshu being hanged on the eve of Passover added in 1342 Munich manuscript]

Our Rabbis taught: Yeshu had five disciples, Matthai, Nakai, Nezer, Buni and Todah. When Matthai was brought [before the court] he said to them [the judges], Shall Matthai be executed? Is it not written, Matthai [when] shall I come and appear before God? Thereupon they retorted; Yes, Matthai shall be executed, since it is written, When Matthai [when] shall [he] die and his name perish. When Nakai was brought in he said to them; Shall Nakai be executed? It is not written, Naki [the innocent] and the righteous slay thou not? Yes, was the answer, Nakai shall be executed, since it is written, in secret places does Naki [the innocent] slay. When Nezer was brought in, he said; Shall Nezer be executed? Is it not written, And Nezer [a twig] shall grow forth out of his roots. Yes, they said, Nezer shall be executed, since it is written, But thou art cast forth away from thy grave like Nezer [an abhorred offshoot]. When Buni was brought in, he said: Shall Buni be executed? Is it not written, Beni [my son], my first born? Yes, they said, Buni shall be executed, since it is written, Behold I will slay Bine-ka [thy son] thy first born. And when Todah was brought in, he said to them; Shall Todah be executed? Is it not written, A psalm for Todah [thanksgiving]? Yes, they answered, Todah shall be executed, since it is written, Whoso offereth the sacrifice of Todah [thanksgiving] honoured me."

The anti-semites are at it again with their misuse of the Talmud. They now use this discussion about stoning and the use of heralds in the Talmud and insert the name of Jesus of Nazareth here and claim that this Yeshu is Jesus. Yeshu is used for many people in the Talmud and it means 'the one who is accursed' as the Rabbis didn't want to say his name. This Yeshu lived about 100 years before Jesus and his 'passion'or punishment lasted for 40 days and he was high up in the government. He had 5 disciples not 12.

Jesus was crucified by the Romans not Jews and Jesus was crucified on the Sabbath preparation Day during Passover not on the eve of Passover. In fact the earliest manscripts do not mention the phrase "On the eve of the Passover Yeshu was hanged", it is the Florentine manuscript of the 12th century (1177) that first adds this phrase. That it has been added is obvious as the original account speaks about Yeshu being stoned to death which fits with the topic of the Mishnah. Some editions of the Talmud from the 14th century on add the word ha Notzri to the name Yeshu but the early manuscripts do not have it (for example the Hamburg manuscript of 1184). The first manuscript to add ha Notzri was the Munich manuscript in 1342.

At this time anti-Judaism among the Christian populace was spreading through the influence of the Gnostics (Cathars)who saw the Old Testament as the Book of the Devil and the Jews the children of the Devil. Also at this time some groups of Jews, who reacting to Christian anti-Jewish fanatacism, added words to the Talmud to reinforce the Toledot Yeshu stories told about Jesus. However leading Rabbis such as Rabbeinu Tam (1100-1171), Nahmanides (1194-1270) and Rabbi Yechiel of Paris (13th century) taught that these references to Yeshu in the Talmud had nothing to do with Jesus. In fact Rabbi Yechiel made the famous comment that just as every Louis does not refer to King Louis IX so every Yeshu doesn't refer to Jesus. The Toledot Yeshu tales have never been a part of authoritive Judaism and the great Rabbinic authority Rabbi Jacob Emden states that both Jesus and Paul were holy Jewish Rabbis.

Just as Catholics believe that the Oral Tradition of Catholicism is to be found in the writings of the Church Fathers so the Talmud records the Oral Tradition (or Torah)of the Jewish Fathers. Like Catholics, Jews are not just 'people of the book'- they believe that the Word of God is expressed in the written and oral forms. The Talmud mentions all sorts of opinions and when taken out of context anti-semites twist the text to say all sorts of things which is not the belief of Judaism at all.

The Comet



Many Catholic prophets mention the coming of a comet. Some state that it will appear twice. One such prophecy comes from St. Hildegarde of Bingen. "Before the comet comes, many nations, the good excepted, will be scourged by want and famine. The great nation in the ocean that is inhabited by people of different tribes and descent will be devastated by earthquake, storm, and tidal wave. It will be divided and, in great part, submerged. That nation will also have many misfortunes at sea and lose its colonies. After the great Comet, the great nation will be devastated by earthquakes, storms, and great waves of water, causing much want and plagues. The ocean will also flood many other countries, so that all coastal cities will live in fear, with many destroyed. All sea coast cities will be fearful, and many of them will be destroyed by tidal waves, and most living creatures will be killed, and even those who escape will die from a horrible disease. For in none of those cities does a person live according to the Laws of God. A powerful wind will rise in the North, carrying heavy fog and the densest dust, and it will fill their throats and eyes so that they will cease their butchery and be stricken with a great fear."

Here is an interesting comment by Rabbi Isaac Ginzburg about a comet associated with the coming of the Messiah.

"In the final chapter of Tractate Brachot (54a), we learn that when viewing zikin in the heavens one should recite the blessing: "Blessed are You, HaShem, our G-d, King of the Universe, for His strength and His power fill the universe." The Talmud (58b) clarifies: "What is zikin? A comet." (In the Aramaic: kochava d'shavit). This expression--kochava d'shavit--alludes clearly to the verse we have been discussing: "A star [kochav] shall go forth from Jacob and a staff [shevet] shall arise in Israel." Similarly, Rav Hai Gaon explains (brought by the Aruch in his first interpretation of zik) that the comet is called kochava d'shavit because "it stands as straight as a staff," just as the verse states, "a star shall go forth from Jacob and a staff shall arise in Israel."

It is thus suggested that the kochava d'shavit symbolizes the "comet" (depicting the soul-root) of the King Mashiach that appears in the heavens in the month of Shevat (a month known for the frequent appearance of comets and shooting stars by means of which we see the revelation that, "His strength and His power fill the universe").

According to this explanation, we have a unification of seeming opposites: of the comet appearing above and the staff that arises from below--representing "in its appointed time" and "I will hasten it." Similarly, the cloud upon which Mashiach rides when descending from above (anan in Hebrew) is revealed, as is the poor man (ani in Hebrew), in the secret of the prophet Elijah (the harbinger of the ultimate redemption) who prays, (I Kings 18:37), "Answer me [aneini], O G-d, answer me [aneini]" (aneini is cognate both to anan ["cloud"] and to ani ["poor man"]). Towards the end of the Book of Isaiah, (Isaiah 63:17), the prophet prays that G-d will bring forth the redemption, "for Your servants' sake, the tribes (in Hebrew shivtei from shevet--staff) of Your inheritance"--"there (to Jerusalem) the tribes used to go up, the tribes of G-d" (Psalm 122:4)--from "below to above," complimenting the revelation "from above" of the kochava d'shavit.

As is well known, a comet has a "tail" that trails it (the Rambam asserts this fact in his laws of blessings). This is the secret of "the footsteps of the Mashiach"--the "traces" that are left by the King Mashiach on his way to redeem us. During the month of Shevat, the "footprints" of the Mashiach are enclothed in our consciousness, awakening within us the desire to search for him. We seek to connect with the essential quality of the King Mashiach, with the awareness that we are bound to him as Chava was to Adam before they were, as it were, sawn apart. In the month of Shevat, in which we celebrate "the New Year of the trees," it is important to rectify the blemish of the "severing of the sprouts" of faith, to join and re-unite the quality of Kingship (the congregation of Israel, the aspect of Chava) with the Tzadik, foundation of the world" (reflecting Adam, a contraction of Adam, David, Mashiach)--the King Mashiach."

Some Catholics believe that the fire from heaven mentioned in the Akita prophecy and the flaming sword in the Third secret of Fatima refer to the Comet. The Third Secret of Fatima states:"After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: 'Penance, Penance, Penance!'. And we saw in an immense light that is God: 'something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a Bishop dressed in White 'we had the impression that it was the Holy Father'. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God."

The Akita prophecy (October 13 1973) states: "As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by my Son. Each day, recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and the priests. The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, and bishops against other bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their Confreres. The Church and altars will be vandalized. The Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord. The demon will rage especially against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of my sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will no longer be pardon for them."

Birth of the Messiah


Rabbi Shusterman writes in the "Chabad Weekly":

"MOSHIACH IS BORN ON TISHA B'AV

Tisha B'Av is known by our Sages as the birthday of Moshiach. In simple terms this means that at the moment of the destruction of the Holy Temple, the potential for the
Final Redemption, through Moshiach, was born. The Rebbe clarified the exact meaning of this: "Our Sages explain that this cannot refer to Moshiach's actual birth, because Moshiach will not be an infant when he redeems our people. But rather, it refers to a strengthening of his influence. For our Sages refer to a birthday as a day when mazalo govair, 'the spiritual source of one's soul shines powerfully.' On the day when Moshiach's spiritual source is powerfully revealed, there is a unique potential for the Redemption to come . . . . Each year, for the past two thousand years, on Tisha B'Av, Moshiach receives new power and new strength, and from year to year, this influence grows more powerfully. "Thus, Tisha B'Av is a unique time, when the potential for the Redemption is at its peak. Through this insight into Tisha B'Av we are introduced to a basic concept in chasidic philosophy, which teaches that the greatest ascent comes after the greatest descent. Let us use the time properly and bring about the greatest ascent, the revelation of Moshiach and the Final Redemption, NOW.(From: Living with Moshiach ]"



The Jewish tradition speaks about the birth of the Messiah before the destruction of the Second Temple and they celebrate his birth on Tisha B'Av the fast in commemeration of the destruction of both Temples. However Tisha b'Av is also called a 'mo'ed' a feast or festival because it is also a day to commemerate the Messiah's birth. Thus the Jewish tradition teaches that the Messiah is already born and has been taken up to a hidden place to await his return in a glorious manifestation towards the end of the Messianic Era. When Judaism speaks of and expects the coming of Messiah it is this return they are expecting. When the Jewish traditions speak of a future 'birth' of the Messiah in the world they are speaking metaphorically of the spiritual revelation of his presence ( sometimes called the Gillui Shekinah) which will usher in after a spiritual struggle (called Jacob's trouble)an Era of Messianic Rest in History. In these traditions the Mother of the Messiah is called Shekinat (the female presence) and Hepzibah [the one in whom he delights] as the suffering soul of the Universe she is called Miriam.In regards to the coming of Mashiach the Jewish cry is 'hinei zeh ba' which can be translated as 'Behold he has come' or 'behold he is coming'. He has come as Mashiach ben Joseph at Bethlehem and he is coming in glory as Mashiach ben David. HINEI ZEH BA!!!!!

Are Passover Seders sinful? A Hebrew Catholic Response


Once again some Catholic traditionalists are attacking the Jews in the Church. They are now spreading homilies on the internet by anonymous Catholic Tridentine priests who are attacking the practice of keeping the Passover Seder by Catholics. They do this by quoting the great doctor of the Church St. Thomas Aquinas. They quote his opinion that a Catholic who keeps the ceremonies and rituals of the Old Covenant as if the Messiah had not already been born is committing a mortal sin. They then decide that this means that those Catholics who attend Passover Seders whether unchanged ones or christianised ones are objectively committing mortal sin. They state that the passover is part of the animal sacrifices abolished by the first coming of Christ. They also go on to say that the Jewish passover of today has nothing to do with the ancient passover celebrated by Jesus.

They thus show that they are blinded by their anti-semitic prejudices. If it is true that the modern Passover has nothing to do with the ancient passover (as they say)then it has nothing to do with the rituals or animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant. Then one cannot possibly be sinning unless keeping another ceremony such as Thanksgiving is a sin as well. However I would not agree that the modern Passover Seder kept by the Jews has no connection to the ancient Passover.

One is not obliged to accept as correct all that St Thomas of Aquinas teaches as is obvious in his opposition to the teaching of the Immaculate Conception and other opinions of his that are not accepted today by the Church. However I think all Jews in the Church would accept the principle that keeping the ceremonies and rituals of the Old Covenant as neccessary for salvation or as if the Messiah had not been born is wrong. We do not keep the Passover Seder as if the Messiah had not been born nor do we keep it as a means to salvation.

We also know, from Benedict XIV's letter 'Ex Quo' (1756) to the Italo-Greeks, that Old Covenant ceremonies and rituals may be kept in the Church even by Gentiles if they are given a New Covenant purpose or meaning. How much more then for the Jews in the Church. Benedict XIV even states that if the Church wishes she could bind the kosher food laws on the Gentile Catholics if she so wishes for a spiritual purpose. How much more then for the Jews in the Church.

A Jew who has come to faith in the Messiah Jesus and his Church now sees the Passover Seder with new eyes that sees Jesus and Mary hidden in the Passover ritual whether one celebrates it as it is or with Christian additions. It is impossible for a Catholic Jew to celebrate Passover as if the Messiah had not come, as everything in the celebration speaks of his Presence and brings one to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the transformed Passover Seder that is the Eucharist. A Catholic Jew who observes the Passover Seder always observes it in the light of the New Covenant which gives it a new meaning and purpose in the interior life of the Catholic Jew. In fact most Jews who enter the church today have found that the Passover means so much more to them now than before they entered the Church. Now we observe it not because we are commanded to in a legalistic way or as a means to salvation but because we see its inner light of sanctification that leads us into the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus.

Some may say that it is Ok for the Jews in the church to keep the Passover as it is part of their heritage but they would exclude the non-Jews in keeping it. However our present Pope would disagree with them. Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) in his book "Behold the Pierced One" states "...it seems to me, this Passover celebration which has come down to us from the nomads, via Israel and through Christ, also has (in the deepest sense) an eminently political significance. We as a nation, we in Europe, need to go back to our spiritual roots, lest we become lost in self-destruction. This feast needs to become a family celebration once again, for it is the family that is the real bastion of creation and humanity. Passover is a summons, urgently reminding us that the family is the living home in which humanity is nurtured, which banishes chaos and futility, and which must be protected as such. But we must add that the family can only be this sphere of humanity, this bastion of creation, if it is under the banner of the Lamb, if it is protected by the power of faith which comes from the love of Jesus Christ..." Here we see Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) calling for all Catholics to celebrate with their families the Passover Seder for deep theological and spiritual reasons connected with preserving the faith in the family. Many modern Catholics seem to have lost the customs of making God part of the ordinary life of the family and they could learn much from the Orthodox Jewish families who bring God in a natural and spiritual way into the daily rythm of family life.

So those priests and bishops who encourage and participate with the laity in Passover Seders all over the Catholic world are the ones who are in tune with the thinking of our present Holy Father. If the present head of the Signatura (High court of the Vatican) Archbishop Burke feels comfortable attending a Passover Seder hosted by the Association of Hebrew Catholics then I think all Catholics can rest easy about their participation in Passover Seders.
